Psoriasis does not discriminate

Updated: Apr 4

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterised by clearly defined, red and scaly plaques.

Psoriasis affects 2–4% of males and females. It can start at any age including childhood, with peaks of onset at 15–25 years and 50–60 years. It tends to persist lifelong, fluctuating in extent and severity.

It is caused by a proliferation of skin cells that lead to thick white plaques that can be itchy and lead to embarrassment and even stop people from enjoying a social life or affect their work life.

Below is the link to an article about Hayley, who realised that to control her skin condition she needed to make changes to her lifestyle and diet. Changes may be different for each person but the foundations are usually the same;

  • Reducing & managing stress

  • Eating a whole food diet low in gluten, dairy and inflammatory foods

  • Reducing take away foods, alcohol, cigarettes and drugs

  • Getting good quality sleep

Every person can make simple changes and see some benefits in their skin condition. For long term results some changes will need to be life long. Other changes may be short term until symptoms subside and then foods reintroduced. To maintain healthy skin long term a diet that contains wholefoods, a healthy sleep routine and nourishing your nervous system to maintain healthy stress & hormone levels will keep most skin conditions under control.

In health & happiness,

Kirsty
