Coffee - What to do if you need a break from your daily fix

Updated: Sep 10, 2021

I do enjoy my morning coffee! I do aim to keep it to one in the morning.

What do I do if I really feel the need for that hot coffee in the afternoon, but don't want to end up wide awake all night? Here are a few substitutes that even I find great.

#1 Teechino is a great one that has its base of carob and almonds and dates and is can be in a bag or brewed in a pot. Comes in a few different flavours and apart from tasting good is actually good for you too.

#2 I love a beetroot or tumeric latte. Often with the addition of other herbs they make a healthy alternative to coffee.

#3 Chai tea. Make sure it is not the sweet syrup stuff but the true herbs and spices that are made into the tea. The best Chai was made for me by an Indian friend who ground the individual spices, added them to the tea leaves and boiled it on the stove top in the milk. So delicious!

#4 Matcha green tea. If you need that bit of caffeine and help to lift the brain cloud in the afternoon then matcha is a great alternative. Green tea has the active Theanine that helps with concentration but calms the mind as well. It does contain a small amount of caffeine so those that are senstive may need to avoid it

#5 Dandelion coffee is made using the root of the dandelion and has long been used as a coffee substitute. It is great for liver support so great when looking at detoxing.

#6 Licorice tea. For those people who love a sweet treat and do like licorice then licorice root tea is a great afternoon treat. Great for the nervous system too. Just a be careful to not drink too much if on certain BP medication.

So if you are looking at trying to reduce your coffee through the day try one of these alternatives and see which is best for you.
